Living in Alexandria

Close proximity to Washington, D.C. makes Alexandria a very convenient and somewhat expensive place to live. A 1 bedroom 1 bath town home conveniently located near King St. metro station can rent for as much as $1,400 per months, while a 2 bedroom town house in a good neighborhood can rent for $2,000 per month or even higher. Most of the rentals are condos, so if your goal is finding a house, supply is very limited. The general rule is the closer to metro or the highway I-395 or I-495, the more expensive it gets. With Northern Virginia's chronic traffic problems such high prices can be easily justified, as living farther away from D.C. center means lot's of hours spent in traffic. If you work in D.C., renting in VA is also a benefit with Virginia's auto taxes beating D.C. or Maryland. Other taxes depend on your income level though, so it is better to consider all the factors.
